Hooray! Another good review!

I'm so excited, I had to share with you all! I got another lovely review of Love Can Be Murder. It's so nice to know that someone enjoyed my work! Check it out here...

Long and Short Romance Reviews

Wednesday, September 30, 2009

Wow!

So it's been a week and a half since Jesse's Brother has been released. I've done interviews, guest blogs, and chats so far. These were all fun things to do in the name of promotion. What I was scared of were the reviews! Right before the release date, I sent out Jesse's Brother to be reviewed by Pheobe Jordan. I checked her review blog every day to see if the review had been posted. It was finally with a rating of 4 out of 5 open books. It made my whole day... okay, week.

Pheobe said, "I very much look forward to reading any of Wendy's future novels because like I said she has me hooked."

Anyway, I'm so proud even though I've prepared myself for a not-so-good reviews. Hopefully I won't get any huh? One thing I'm wondering about is how many people buy books based on reviews. Does a review influence your book buying choice?

If you have a few minutes, take a peek last night's project! Talk to you soon... Wendy Ely

She's here!

I have seen this woman all over the web and have the honor of having her as my friend. Soooo, I'm proud to announce book reviewer Phoebe Jordan to our blog!

Why did you decide to be a romance reviewer?

Actually I just loved reading romance novels of various sub-genres that I kept learning more about with each passing year and it wasn't until the beginning of 2008 that I really started to find out that there was a whole world out there for romance readers. I started a blog with www.blogger.com where I would start posting about the books that I had recently read. But then I got into networking with other romance readers and found that I might want to start blogging about the books I read with other romance readers. That is how I started my review blog Talk About My Favorite Authors but after a while I found that the readers I chose to join me were a bit too busy for blogging even about the books they've read. So I made out to be a romance reviewer since authors starting contacting me about reading and reviewing their novels because they saw that I've read a lot of books.

What sparks your interest in a book?

Since I was a child my mother use to read so many books to me but it wasn't until my aunt gave me the first three books in the Harry Potter series when I was 10 years old that I really got into reading books for the pleasure and not necessity of doing it for school. When I was in junior high school is when I started reading adult mystery novels for fun and Tami Hoag was the author who I happened to have chosen. Then it wasn't until I was about to start high school that I found out about romance novels with Catherine Coulter's Warrior Song and Nora Roberts' Three Fates. And as they would say the rest is history.

Do you have any pet peeves in books?

I don't know exactly but I think one of my pet peeves when reading a book is that there isn't a satisfying happily ever after when I'm done with the novel. That really ticks me off because I'm a romantic at heart and I want to see hero and heroine happy together.

What is the best book you've read this year?

Hmm...that is a really, really hard question to answer because I've read so many fantastic books this year and don't know if I could ever make up my mind with just one. So I'm going to have to disappoint you and say there are too many to chose from and I can't make up my mind.

Where can readers find you?

Well I'm on various networks for romance readers and writers so here are some of them:

A visit from Ms. Dater!

I’m so honored to be blogging at a romance author blog even though I’m not an author. Or a publisher really. Not even an agent. What I am is the BIGGEST romance novel fan! So why do I get to be a guest here? I’m single and looking for my own love story. You know~ one of those kinds these authors write about! I know my Mr. Forever is not going to drop from the sky so I’m out pounding the pavement to find him. Some day I’ll have my own romance like in a novel. But not last Friday. Oh no. First of all~ you should know I suck at dating. It’s not one of my talents.

So here’s my date:

I met my date outside of my favorite Mexican food restaurant. He looked great with his rumpled blond hair, freckles, and wrinkle free clothes. Yep. I even look at the clothes the guy wears. This one looked great.
“Mark, it’s so nice to meet you.” I shot him a great big smile.
He didn’t smile back so it got me wondering what heck his problem was. I learned soon enough.
“My name’s John.”
Oh, right! Mark was the other night. Damn. Strike one. I wondered how many I would get?

Since we started off the wrong foot it couldn’t get worse right? I’ll let you be the judge. We walk into the place and was taken right to a table. Our waiter was my date’s friend. I sat there quietly while he jabbered on and on to this waiter. My stomach was growling and I was getting antsy. Not a good combo.

I lean over to the waiter who was crouched down next to the table to introduce myself since my date wasn‘t. “I’m Mark’s date.” As soon as the name left my mouth I knew it was bad. “I mean John.” I sat back against the seat and knew I was in trouble.

But at least I was wearing what I call my cleavage shirt so maybe it would get me some brownie points with him and he’d forget about the silly name thing. It must have worked because he seemed to ease up a bit while we waited for our food.

All was going good until he was eating a nacho with a big dollop of sour cream. I don’t know how it had gotten smeared across his cheek but it looked like he had been having fun with someone other than me. The thought of that sent me into a giggled. I didn’t realize the waiter was coming with our food until it was to late.

The waiter laughed at my date as he set the food down on our table. Once he was gone, I told John about the sour cream.

I hit the three strike rule. He doesn’t want to go out with me again.

I guess that leaves me to read more of Sweet Talk by Susan Mallery. Such a beautiful story about estranged sisters and the male best friend. I think I’ll go ask my mom if she’s sure I don’t have some long lost sister somewhere so maybe I can hook up with her best friend like in the novel I’m reading!

If you’d like me to review your book, send it on over and these awesome authors will forward it to me! Who knows how it’ll tie into my next date!!

XoXo,
Ms. Dater
