Down to the Wire

I'm within sight distance of finishing about four different books. You don't know how happy this makes me. I sometimes despair of ever finishing anything again.

Why you ask?

Because I'm a foot dragger.

Yes, I know. Anyone as prolific as I am has no business dragging their feet at the end of a book. I have no idea why this is, or how it happens. I basically know the ending or I might have it all plotted out, but for some reason, I see that last word on the horizon and my feet start slowing down and I get all anxious. It's not that I don't want to finish and move on. Lord, knows I like nothing better than to get books out the door and sent off to their intended destination. But man. Something about that finish line is like I'm typing through an ocean of thick mud and molasses. Even the books I have plotted within an inch of their lives give me fits toward the end.

I've asked myself multiple times why it is that I don't want to see the end come. Is it because I've fallen hard for the characters and want to stay in their world? Is it fear of failure? Or fear of success?

Whatever it is, I don't have the answer, nor a quick fix. It all comes down to just sitting at the computer and doing the work.

Which I will start....tomorrow.

(No, that wasn't permission for procrastination - I have to go t work in a bit.)

Until next week,

Write Hard, Love Long,

-Kate
