On my birthday (14th Jan) I began complaining of a cramp in my leg. I thought nothing of it, but the pain didn't go away and a few days later my leg had swelled up like a balloon. By the weekend I couldn't walk. My partner insisted that I go to the doctor (today) and as soon as the doctor saw me he became immediately concerned.
I was rushed off for x-rays and ultrasounds and doppler scans and the upshot of it all is that I have a blood clot in my calf (thankfully below the knee) Seems I have DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) and for the life of me I don't know how I could have got such a thing. They think it may be connected with family history, so I'll have a genetics test when the clot clears. I haven't been on a long haul flight, I don't have any sports injuries and as far as I can tell, I'm not pregnant.
I am now admitted to the hospital as a patient but because I don't need 24 hour watch anymore I am a Home Care Patient. I get a nurse around every day injecting me with stuff (that needle mother f**cking kills), taking blood and then letting me know the medication I need to help dissolve the blood clot. She will be doing this for five days. After that, if they are happy, I will be discharged and then placed on an excercise programe to get my legs moving again. I will be on the anticlotting drugs for 3-6 months.
The upshot of all this is that I am to rest at home, which means I can spend some time writing. So yeah...I'm good, if a little shaken by how things can suddenly turn in life. Here's me so worried about my partner it didn't even cross my mind that I would have anything happen to me. I was invincible. So I thought...
Oh, and I look real sexy in compression stockings let me tell you!
*hugs*

Hey there, Mate. I kept checking WTR blog to read your post. Knowing you, I know you'll come up with something to blog about. When your post didn't show up early this afternoon, I knew something important took you away from blogging.
Sorry to hear about the blood clot. At least you look sexy in compression stockings. *trying my best to imagine you in it.* :D
Oh yeah, I hate those needles.
Hey, take care and don't let this clot stop you from brewing something naughty.
Hugs,
T
Thank you so much for your words, Tierney. Yes, I do blog like clockwork, but for most of yesterday I was asleep and rather exhausted from all the prodding and poking I was getting from the doctors and nurses.
On the plus side, I am writing a lot, and yes, it's damn naughty! *grin*
I will keep you all appraised of my situation.
*hugs* and thanks again, mate!
Mark.
Yikes!! Take care of you- that stuff is nasty and clots can kill. So, glad you went to see the doctor. Wishing you the best, Nance
Thank you, Nancy! Wise words indeed. And it was my partner who took me. Glad of that now, let me tell you!
*hugs*

I hope you feel better soon, Mark! Happy late Birthday :)

Thanks, Wendy! I hope I feel better soon, too.

Happy belated birthday, Mark! I am soooooo thankful your partner insisted you go to the doctor! Hope you get to feeling better fast...well, not too fast because then you'll have to stop the naughty writing. ;-)
*huggles*
Thank you, Gracen. The nurse said my partner basically saved my life!
Still in the hospital, but in my home. So yep. Plenty of writing is being done.
*hugs*
Mark.
Well, thank god for your partner too! *sends them hugs and kisses*
I think it's cool that you can still be in the hospital, but at home. I wish I could have done that with my youngest son. He was life-threateningly sick when he was born, so he and I spent 2 weeks in the hospital with him on IV antibiotics. I couldn't leave the hospital because he wasn't admitted to the nursery, but to a room. Being away from my oldest son was very, very hard and was the longest two weeks of my life!! Being in the hospital at home would have been an awesome compromise. But my baby survived, so that's all that matters.
You take care of yourself, okay? We don't want the "thorn" in our "roses" out of commission. That sounded so wrong, but you know what I mean! LOL

Gracen
Do exactly as the doctors tell you! DVT's are a serious business. Believe it or not, you can get clots from sitting at your writing desk for too long. So, now you have a history of them, please get up and walk during long writing sessions. Break it up by taking a walk around the house or yard every so often.
Glad you're on the road to recovery!!
Hugs

Gracen, hospital@home is a great idea. Sure helped me, because I hate hospitals. I am so glad you got your baby even though the start in his life wasn't the best. *hugs*
Kate, yep. I am doing exactly as they say. I don't want this back again. I have to get up every hour an walk around. I also have to exercise a bit more :-) All good.
*hugs*

Do what the dr says and all will be fine. This is not something to sneeze at..Take care.
I am, misskallie2000! I am! Thank you so much for your comment. So nice to know there are people out there thinking of me. Bless you.

Oh honey!!!!! I have been so out of the loop. My computer crashed and I'm just now back online! You are in my thoughts and prayers. I'm so sorry this has happened to one of the greatest guys EVER!!! I hope you aren't getting cabin fever but at least you can write like mad. Hang in there, sweetie! I adore you and will light a candle for your poor leg tonight! And hey......save those stockings...they may come in handy after you heal. You can either tie your honey up or rob a bank.
xxoo,
Alisha
*hugs* Alisha! Great to have you back. I missed my virtual chocolate buddy!
Thanks for your thoughts, mate. Much needed :-)
*more hugs*
Mark.
