Crazy Thing Called Love

I love you. Those three words can be said in a variety of languages from around the world...

Spanish...Te amo

Irish...Is tú mo ghrá

French...Je t'aime

Arabic...أنا أحبك

Dutch...Ik hou van jou

Slovenian...Ljubim te

Italian...Ti amo

But that's just over a handful of ways to say, "I love you" to someone.

This thing called love I just can't handle it
this thing called love I must get round to it
I ain't ready
Crazy little thing called love
This (This Thing) called love
(Called Love)
It cries (Like a baby)
In a cradle all night
It swings (Woo Woo)
It jives (Woo Woo)
It shakes all over like a jelly fish,
I kinda like it
Crazy little thing called love

Lyrics of Crazy Little Thing Called Love by Queen

Love is addicting, right? It should be fun. We all want to be in love and be loved. And like the lyrics of Queen's song, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, say, love can be crazy and wonderful and you shake and jive all over when you find that special someone. But are any of us ever ready for love when it stings us like a jelly fish?

Here are some other ways to write the word "Love" in other languages:

In Greek mythology Eros (or the Roman counterpart Cupid) was the god of sexual love and was worshiped as a fertility god. He married Psyche, the goddess of deification of the mortal soul and in Greek the word psyche means “spirit, breath, life or animating force.” Psyche was often depicted as a goddess with butterfly wings on ancient mosaics.

(depiction of Eros & Psyche)

The brief version of Cupid and Psyche’s story is that Psyche was the youngest princess of Sicily and she was so beautiful suitors flocked to ask for her hand in marriage. But she grew bold with her beauty and claimed to be more beautiful than Aphrodite, which was rather ballsy if you ask me and stupid drawing attention to herself by belittling a goddess and elevating herself with her own importance. Just asking for Greek Goddess wrath if you ask me. And, as with all Greek gods and goddesses, Aphrodite decides to settle the score and dispatches Eros/Cupid to thwack Psyche with an arrow that would cause Psyche to fall in love with the closest person (some stories claim a monster) available. But Eros/Cupid falls victim to her beauty, fell in love with her and secreted her away, marrying her and having her turned into a goddess by Zeus (the big honcho Greek God just in case you didn't know).

How romantic, right? LOL Well, maybe not, because in another version Eros/Cupid fell in love with Pysche only after accidently nicking himself with the arrow intended for her. This sound like my kind of luck! =)

Wonder why Eros is depicted as a cherub? I've always thought Eros was probably some stud-muffin that had a multitude of torrid love affairs. But what do I know, I'm not a Eros guru...but I have a naughty imagination. ;-) And my imagination for Cupid/Eros runs more along the lines of this:

But maybe for us all love is just blind chance, an accident birthed by the events of the moment, or Eros/Cupid’s arrow flying wide and hitting the wrong mark. Who the hell knows, but I do know one thing, after 18 years of marriage, I love my husband more today than I did when I married him. I respect him, admire him, and am honored to be his wife. I’m still excited to see him each night when he arrives home. I love cuddling with him, kissing him and spending time with him. I’m thankful he thinks my bitchiness is adorable, so long as it’s not directed toward him, of course. ;-)

In honor of Valentine’s Day, I blow my husband a loving kiss for yesterday, today and all the tomorrows to come.

So, tell me, what's your definition of love and if you could kiss anyone on Valentine’s Day who would it be? Here’s your chance to scream your love to the world! My hope for you today, and the rest of the year, is that you'll love someone or be loved by someone with an intensity that will enrich your life.
